FoF Success!

Last week, we held our 3rd annual Friends of Friends Fundraiser!
It was a big success. The idea for the party was born 4 years ago when I moved to Boston. People are always moving in and out of cities and looking for new people to meet. What I found difficult was to go to parties where I wasn’t technically invited. It’s always a question “Are you sure it’s okay if I come?” But if it’s a party specifically for friends of friends, everyone is welcome.
The first year was in Boston, 2009 was in LA, 2010 was in NYC. This one was held at Cornerstone bar (whose owner Xan was awesome). Vishal Patel, our former Orientation Leader was the co-host. We had around 150 show up and made $1500 to support SIC’s programs.
I heard that a few couples formed and many dates occurred post-party. There’s more gossip out there but I’ve been sworn to secrecy. Needless to say, it was good times for all.
As Vishal put it well, “Great night of social responsibility and drunken irresponsibility!”
Thank you to everyone who came out, had a great time and supported an important cause – we’ll have one again next year…

Interested in hosting your own fundraiser??
Your time in Tanzania is limited, but your opportunities to make an impact don’t have to stop when you return home. Planning and hosting your own fundraising event for SIC gives you the chance to continue supporting and empowering the communities that you worked so closely with, share your experience (if you are an alum!), and spread the word about SIC’s work.
Contact us with your idea for an event or fundraising campaign and we will do whatever we can to help facilitate its success. We have alumni in almost every major city, so make sure you take advantage of our growing SIC network!
Here’s a few more ideas to get you started:
- Movie Screenings - let us know if you’d like a copy of the 3 Peaks 3 Weeks documentary or Into the Light to show at your event!
- benefit concerts
- galas
- comedy nights
- run/walks
- dinner parties
- anything that you think would appeal to your community – feel free to be creative!
