Resources

SIC is committed to providing useful resources for our supporters, volunteers, alumni and anyone interested in global health and development. If you have any questions at all, contact us and we would be happy to answer them!

Reports

Accountability is one of SIC’s core values.  We are committed to providing financial and programmatic reports that are transparent, accurate, timely and freely available. We hold ourselves accountable to communities, donors, boards, supporters, volunteers and staff members.

Pre-field

Pre-field preparation is an integral part of the SIC experience. It helps to prepare volunteers for life in a developing country, enables each group to get to know one another, and begins the process of preparing volunteers to teach.

All volunteers will receive copies of the pre-field manual (including all logistics information and forms), and our HIV curriculum, which will be used as the basis for teaching in Tanzania.  Coordinators will provide paper copies of these documents to volunteers, however they are also available for download here. This page also includes the required and supplementary readings for each of the 8 pre-field sessions. Topics to be covered include: our HIV curriculum, an introduction to development work, Tanzanian history and culture, the ethics of volunteering, and health and safety in Arusha.

SIC Curricula

Most of these resources were created for use in northern Tanzania, but could be easily modified for use in other parts of the world. We welcome feedback and suggestions on our educational resources, and please let us know if you use any of these curricula or manuals.

Alumni Resource Center

We created the Resource Center category of our blog in order to post job, fellowship, internship and other opportunities we think will appeal to our SIC Alumni, in order to support their future endeavors. Occasionally we will also include SIC events, guest speaking engagements and other opportunities for our alumni to re-connect and/or stay involved.
